I work independently of the NHS, although I firmly believe the NHS is an amazing resource and should not be privatised. I fully support evidence-based, women-centred midwifery such as case-loading within the NHS.
Why don’t you work in the NHS then?
To get down to brass tacks, working as an independent midwife means I earn less and am on call more frequently than my NHS colleagues, but it gives me the freedom to be an awesome midwife who wants you to have the best care possible. This experience will change your life- you want someone who will invest in you as you have invested in this pregnancy. Until case-loading becomes the norm within the NHS, being independent is the way I can give you the best support.
